Unlocking the Potential of Hybrid Quantum-Classical Computers

Unlocking the Potential of Hybrid Quantum-Classical Computers

In recent years, it has become increasingly clearer that realizing the potential of Quantum Computers would require tight quantum-classical integration. In particular, to overcome the high error rate of today's quantum computers, unified quantum-classical architectures that can efficiently run hybrid algorithms and complex workflows must be designed and built. It is also crucial to define benchmarks for quantum-classical processing, allowing the community to assess different technologies and architectures and build the best systems possible. In this talk, we will dive into the considerations for building such architectures and present the latest progress and developments in the field. We'll explore just how tight the integration can get and how this can open up new possibilities for scientific research and technological advancements.

The global market for photodetectors in the Commercial communications equipment was ~$24B in 2022 and is projected to reach ~$36B in 2027. In comparative terms, the current global market for Quantum Communications is nearly nonexistent. In isolation, the market opportunity for Quantum-capable detectors does not support the significant effort still required to achieve reliable and efficient operation at room-temperature. We will discuss some of the technological options and potential use cases (both Quantum and Classical) for such a device.
