Large-scale efforts are ongoing around the globe in pursuit of useful quantum computing. Today, no team has succeeded in building a large-scale, error-corrected quantum computer, the critical missing piece for our entire industry. PsiQuantum’s approach is based on photonic qubits, implemented using integrated components which can be manufactured using standard semiconductor manufacturing processes. PsiQuantum’s view is that error correction will be necessary in order to implement commercially valuable applications. Currently, quantum error correction requires a large overhead for all qubit modalities, and therefore we assume that a very large system, on the order of one million qubits, will be required at a minimum. In this talk, we will describe progress towards building such a large-scale, error-corrected quantum computer, including advances in semiconductor manufacturing processes, device performance, subsystems, packaging, integration and quantum networking, high-power cryogenic cooling systems, efficient architectures for optical quantum computing, optimized fault-tolerant compilation of quantum algorithms, and software for quantum algorithms development. We will describe future milestones for our development, as well as current engagements with future users of the technology.
