Accelerating Materials Discovery with Quantum Computing

Recognizing the pivotal role of quantum computing in future materials discovery, Mitsubishi Chemical Group has been researching the application of real quantum devices to practical materials simulations, machine learning, and optimization calculations with many world’s leading institutes such as IBM, Keio University, Fujitsu, PsiQuantum and Toronto University in the past a few years. In this talk, we will describe our various research activities with our collaborators particularly through SIP (Cross-ministerial Strategy Innovation promotion Program) national project. We will also discuss our recent work on two fronts: 1) photochemistry simulations using quantum computers and 2) predicting material properties through quantum machine learning. Our efforts are directed towards a future where quantum computers significantly aid the development of advanced materials.
