Some performance indicators of quantum computers can be traced back to the chip design and quality of materials comprising the quantum devices. Therefore, in-depth device characterization at both wafer-scale and qubit-level is needed to ensure high degree of uniformity and quality of QPU fabrication as well as material growth. In parallel, material defects play a big role in device instabilities and therefore large-scale evaluation of material defects is of paramount importance as well.
