Protecting Expressive Circuits with a Quantum Error Detection Code

Fault-tolerant quantum error correction techniques are designed to protect quantum computers from experimental noise, but they are too resource intensive for existing hardware. We propose a partially fault-tolerant implementation of the [[k+2, k, 2]] quantum error detection code — nicknamed Iceberg code — to protect expressive quantum circuits on existing trapped-ion computers. Experiments on Quantinuum’s 12-qubit H1-2 hardware demonstrate the protection of expressive quantum circuits of up to 8 logical qubits and 256 layers and saturate the logical quantum volume 2^8 of this device.

多くの量子エラー訂正技術が考案されていますが、既存のハードウェアの限られたリソースではその実現は困難です。そこで我々は、表現力豊かな量子回路を保護するため、[[k+2, k, 2]] 量子エラー検出コード(愛称:アイスバーグコード)の部分的な誤り耐性を持つ実装を検討しました。クオンティニュアム社の量子コンピュータ H1-2  12 量子ビットを用いた実験では、最大 8 論理量子ビット、256 層の表現力豊かな量子回路を保護し、デバイスの論理量子ボリューム2^8であることを実証しました。
